It is easier to become dehydratewd when it is cool or cold because the air is dryer and you do not notice how much you perspire because your skin will dry quicker. On top of that you exert more energy because of the weight of more clothes on your body and in your pack.

You said it quit right, Nick!

I find myself over and over again, standing still, listening, feeling, absorbing and being. Weither I'm building a shelter or make a fire I halt my activities and just....... experience.
After that I notice that my state of consienceness has changed. I see things clearer, colours are more vivid, my hearing has increased too. It's not that the sounds are louder, just clearer, too. And I feel there's a presence all around me. I'm never alone out there, not really...

Excellent tips guys! Thanks.

The pee bottle thing draws quite a difference of opinion. Some people get on with it, some people just plain don't like the idea. Makes sense though!

I know how you feel Moose. The skills used by one guy to make this are amazing and learnt from a lifetime of experience which we're hard pushed these days to fit in with all the other stuff we do!

I'll have to watch it again to answer the specific question about wood ash in hot water. I've used just plain old hot water before to make both wood and birch bark pliable before working them so not sure what the advantage of adding wood ash is for this purpose. Anyhow, I'll take another look when I have a spare few minutes and see if I know ;-)
